UK-based Karen Newman did not set out to be a producer. She moved into producing after a successful career in Global Events Management in the City of London. She originally trained at the UK’s Mountview Theatre School. After a few years working as an actress she decided that being on the other side and making things happen is much more rewarding. Currently she is a partner in Seahorse Films LLP (a collaboration between her, a writer and a director) and CEO of Hidden Door Productions Ltd. With the latter she recently completed a short film called “Lady M” staring actressesSamantha Bond (played Miss Moneypenny in 4 Bond films) and Eleanor Bron, which is starting its festival circuit soon. With Seahorse Films LLP she recently completed her first feature film “Just Charlie”. The story of young Charlie a talented football player with an ambitious dad, starts to feel like he might be in the wrong body recently won the Audience Award for Best Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The film is being internationally distributed by Media Luna New Films. Karen has also co-hosted panels on the topic of film financing with the BFI and attended The Producers Workshop in Cannes to continue learning about the field. She is currently developing 3 different projects that all share having a strong female protagonist at their centre, something Karen is very passionate about.
