Writer and Director (Swiss based in Germany)

Christian Johannes Koch was born in Switzerland and studied at the Haute École d’Art et Design in Geneva followed by a degree in photography at the Academy for Fine Arts in Leipzig. In 2010 he switched to study directing at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. After graduating in 2015 he worked under the auspices of Austrian director and producer Barbara Albert and was an assistant for script-development to Professor Can Togay. His short film “Above us Electricity” was screened at several festivals including: San Sebastian, Hong Kong, the Festival Premiers Plans d’Angers and Festival Tous Courts Aix-en-Provence. It tells the story of a man who wants to save a cow from being butchered. Running through the film is a constant tension that’s evoked through imagery around electricity and superbly acted by the main character using very little dialogue and mainly his face. Christian currently lives in Berlin where he works as a director and freelance writer. His focus is on the script for his first feature film “The Lines of My Hand”, a multi-layered psychological drama produced by Cognito Films. Set in rural Switzerland, the film tells the story of Marina, a married high school teacher, who has a secret love affair with Artem, an illegal immigrant. For the script he received development funding from the Zürcher Filmstiftung, Kanton Luzern, Media Desk Switzerland and the Swiss Ministry of Culture (Treatment).
