Jan-Eric Mack

Jan-Eric (*1983) is a Zurich-based director and graphic designer. He looks back on a succession of award-winning short films and is one of the directors’ of PERIPHERIE, a compilation film by the Masters students of ZHdK which screens in this year’s ZFF „Focus Switzerland, German, Austria“ Competition.

His Bachelor film ALFONSO, a tragi-comcical satire on small-town show business, premiered in the Pardi di domani competition at Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Cinema e Gioventù award. Jan-Eric was also honored with the Advancement Award by his film school ZHdK. His short documentary „WANDELZEIT – EINE GLETSCHERPERFORMANCE“ won the short film prize of the city of Winterhur. It follows a project which tries to raise awareness of climate change’s direct implications in the mountains.

After acquiring his Bachelor’s degree, Jan-Eric co-founded the registered association Verein FilmAtelier Zürich, a network for young auteur filmmakers with a focus on scriptwriting and story development. He also founded the „Stammtisch Film“ with former ZFF MASTER CLASS participant Piet Baumgartner – an open round of talks for filmmakers and industry guests.

In 2015 Jan made the very charming short film KING: Quirky Sämi is a laundryman by day, a barfly by night, and King Elvis himself at home.

He is currently enrolled in the Masters’ program of ZHdK. Here he directed one episode of PERIPHERIE and works on his Masters’ project GEGEN MEKKA, a co-production with DSCHOINT VENTSCHR.
