Director (Swiss based in the UK)
Yvann Yagchi is a Swiss filmmaker with Palestinian and Iraqi roots based in London. His first degree was a Master’s in journalism from the Université Libre de Bruxelles before he switched to filmmaking. He recently graduated with an MA in documentary direction from the National Film and Television School in UK. His grad film, which is also his debut feature doc, ACTA NON VERBA explores the grief of his family following the suicide of his father, who was a Swiss private banker. The film is a personal documentary which includes fictional reenacted scenes and dream sequences along with an investigation into what happened to his father, who was receiving threats previous to his death. Yvann continuously worked on this film during his two years of studies, resulting in a beautifully shot and well crafted story that provides compelling twists and turns. It had its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in 2017 and will travel to the Mostra de Cinéma Sao Paolo in October. It was also nominated for a Grierson Award in the Best Student Documentary category. Yvann is currently working on a fiction script of the story whilst working as a cinematographer for the UK production company Spring Films.
