Writer and Director (Finnish based in Sweden)
Tia Kouvo is a Finnish director currently studying Film directing at the renowned Valand Academy in Gothenburg, Sweden. She is set to graduate in 2018. She is a previous participant of the Stockholm Film Lab and has been making short films since 2009. Her short film “Chat with me” received an honorable mention at the Stockholm International Film Festival in 2014 and was shown at several film festivals in Europe including GoShort in the Netherlands. Chat with me is a tragicomic triangle drama about Mats, a 70-year-old man who is married since 50 years with Doris. One day he starts writing with strangers on the Internet, and soon finds himself on a date with another man. Her next short “Doubter of Spring” received financing from The Swedish Film Institute and tells the story of Ulla who is faced with a void after her mother passes away who she cared for over years. Now it’s time for Ulla, played by the Finnish actress Kati Outinen, to question which turn life should take. The film was screened at Akbank Sanat Festival in Turkey and is currently being re-edited. Currently Tia is working on her thesis film, a comedy-drama about a Finnish family and their Christmas celebrations that involve a death and a funeral. In the future Tia would like to have a base both in Sweden and Finland and to enhance the collaboration and exchange of knowledge between these two countries.
