Writer and Director (Greece)
Thanasis Neofotistos is a Film Director and Writer from Athens, Greece. He initially studied Architecture and afterwards continued with Film Directing getting a Bachelor from the Queen Margaret University. His grad film ‘PROSEFHI: Greek School Prayer’, has been selected by over 40 festivals including Encounters, SaoPaulo, Raindance and Munich. It also won the Golden Dionysus Award at the 37th International Short Film Festival in Greece as well as other significant distinctions (Best Sound, Photography, Golden Odysseus, Nomination at GFA, etc). The film tells the story of dreamy Dimitri who gets bullied by Vassilis and his gang. When it’s Dimitri’s turn to recite the morning prayer at school, all he can think about is Vassilis. The use of sound in the film evokes a very real experience of what it’s like to be at the unwanted centre of attention as a teen. “Greek School Prayer” creates an immersive beautifully works with His latest short is a documentary called ‘POGONISKOS’, the film is about a visit to his grandparents and their memories and won the Best Documentary Award at the 38th Drama ISFF. His next short film project, called ‘PATISION AVENUE’, has already participated in the European Short Pitch initiative in 2016. Thanasis has also gained experience as 1st Assistant Director on two projects by known Greek directors. Currently, Thanasis is in the development stage of his debut feature, which he envisions as a dark, coming of age, fairy-tale; 'PETER AND THE WOLF’.
