Director (German based in Switzerland)
Sue Meures is a documentary director with an MA in documentary from the Zurich University of the Arts and has extensive experience as a director of photography for various print media such as Dazed & Confused, Sleaze Magazine, Die Zeit ‚Magazin', Intersection Magazine and Die Weltwoche. She also works as an Arts Editor for Switzerland’s leading Sunday broadsheet NZZ am Sonntag and FRAME Magazine. After shooting several award-winning short docs for Channel 4 and Al Jazeera, her first documentary feature ‘Raving Iran’ was a big success. It has been screened at over 100 festivals including the Berlinale, Hot Docs Toronto, Vision du Réel Nyon, and has won numerous awards including the First Steps Award, Zurich Film Prize and the Advancement Award at the German Documentary Awards. In ‘Raving Iran’ Sue follows Anoosh and Arash, two DJs at the centre of Tehran’s underground techno scene who are organising one last manic rave in the Persian desert before departing on an incredible journey. The film was lauded by critics as ‘A hypnotic film. An intense and moving journey. Close and Personal. Like a liberating exorcism.’ Currently Sue is in the research phase of her next project, which is again set in the Middle East. Sue is looking forward to a fruitful exchange amongst the Master Class, in particular focusing on questions around the ethics of filmmaking and getting inspiration on what forms of storytelling best suit her new topic.
