"I’d like others to think of me as a team player. A collaborative artist. I’d like also to be known as a free spirited woman, who’s not afraid of anyone. I’d like others to consider me as a versatile director working on films with social relevance and for a cause. But most importantly I’d like to be an inspiration to other artists or filmmakers as well. But then again, these are just random thoughts and dreams. Right now, I’m still working on this to make it happen."
Sigrid Andrea Bernardo is a Filipina writer-director. She has a fantastic style which freely mixes moods and genres in a funny, touching, honest, crazy, and outrageous way! Her short film ANG PAGHIHINTAY SA BULONG/WAITING TO WHISPER (2012) leaves you with a gaping mouth – its anarchic way of storytelling is both astonishing and highly amusing: In Filipino culture when a person dies, you can whisper and send your wishes to the dead. The film is about a family who happens to take care of their ailing mother/grandmother. They see this as a burden in their lives and they wait for her death so they could whisper their wishes.
Sigrid’s feature film debut, ANITA’S LAST CHA CHA (2013), screened literally all around the world. It is a charmingly funny and melancholy film about a 12-year-old girl who falls in love with a woman who recently moved to town. Years later, the girldhood crush finally blossoms. One year later followed Sigrid’s next feature film LORNA, a dramedy about the complicated romantic life of a woman in her 60s. Sigrid has just finished shooting her third feature film KITA-KITA in Japan. We are very proud that she joins us at his year’s ZFF MASTER CLASS.
